Session Dates:

• 6-week sessions will run from June 15 through July 24
• 3-week session 1 will run from June 15 through July 2
• 3-week session 2 will run from July 6 through July 24

There will be no instruction on June 19 and July 3 in observance of Juneteenth and Independence Day.

Session Times:

• Science AM courses will run from 8:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.
• Math AM courses will run from 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
• All PM courses will run from 1:00 p.m. -  4:45 p.m.
• All enrichment AM courses will run from 8:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Final Examinations:

• Semester 1 Final Examination (this will cover material from Semester 1 ONLY): 2nd July
• Semester 2 Final Examination (this is a comprehensive exam covering the entirety of the course): 24th July

Course Prerequisites:

We ask that families review the course prerequisites and required documentation carefully before beginning the application. Our approval process is comprehensive, evaluating each student’s academic history to confirm they are prepared for the specific challenges of a condensed curriculum and enter the classroom  with the foundational knowledge necessary to thrive in a high-speed environment.

QLS Students: 

• Students must meet all prerequisite requirements as outlined in the current Quarry Lane School Course Catalog for the corresponding course or level.
  • Additionally, current QLS students who are enrolling in a for-credit, academic course must submit a signed QLS approval form upon registering. 

For Non-QLS Students:
Students who do not currently attend Quarry Lane School must meet the following prerequisite criteria to enroll in any for-credit, academic course in our Summer Academy program.

• To enroll in a regular course, students must have earned a minimum overall grade of 85% or higher in the prerequisite course.
• To enroll in an Honors course, students must have earned a minimum overall grade of 90% or higher in the prerequisite course.

Additionally, students must complete and submit the Course Approval Form prior to enrolling in an academic course to verify readiness and placement. The Course Approval form requires students to upload a teacher feedback form and transcript (indicating the student has met the course prerequisite).  Once processed, a link to the formal enrollment form will be emailed by the Office of Academics.

Academic Demand:

Our for-credit, summer academic courses condense a full 37-week academic year into an intensive six-week term. Given this accelerated pace, students should expect a rigorous curriculum characterized by significant daily homework, weekly readings, and frequent assessments. The program is designed to challenge students through high-level critical thinking and complex assignments, requiring a thorough, mastery of the subject matter to succeed. Prospective students should be prepared for a demanding workload and a fast-moving curriculum.

Enrolling in Two Academic Courses

Students enrolled in both AM and PM sessions are expected to maintain strong academic performance throughout the term.

Non-QLS students may request enrollment in both a morning and afternoon session; however, students should be aware that taking two intensive courses in the same day is a significant academic commitment. The workload, pacing, and expectations are rigorous, and students should carefully consider whether they can sustain the demands of both sessions before enrolling. Placement is subject to academic review and approval.

If a student’s grade falls to 82% or below by the end of Week 2, the enrollment status may be changed to Audit for the remainder of the course.

Families will be notified of placement approval and any required next steps via email.

Earning Course Credit & Attendance Policy

To earn course credit for an academic class, students must maintain an overall grade of 83% or higher. Students with an overall grade of 82% or below by the end of week two may have their enrollment status shifted to Audit for the remainder of the course. 

Additionally, students who are excessively tardy and/or miss more than two days of instruction may not be eligible for course credit. 

Auditing a Course

Auditing a course means it will not appear for credit or receive a final grade. Students may choose to audit a Summer Academy class for any reason, whether to explore a new subject, participate without the pressure of grades, or simply learn for enrichment. Students who choose to audit a course or have their enrollment status changed to Audit are expected to attend and engage fully in class activities.

The last day to request a change to Audit status is July 29. Requests received after this date may not be accommodated.
