Visual and Performing Arts

We believe the arts enrich the lives of our community. In our Upper School, Quarry Lane offers a unique and robust visual and performing arts program to students of all levels and interests. The Upper School visual and performing arts program provides a comprehensive experience focusing on students' creative expression as well as their technical abilities. Our Visual and Performing Arts program aims to provide students with an understanding of the role of art in contemporary culture and the connection between art and other disciplines.

Visual Arts

The Upper School Visual Arts program provides students with opportunities for a deeper, more focused exploration of fine art. Students are guided in the development of self-expression, artistic process, technical ability, creative problem solving and an understanding of the principals and elements of design.

Our middle school visual art electives cultivate our students' artistic skills and interests. In middle school, students deepen their understanding of visual art principles and elements, explore various artistic mediums and techniques and begin to emphasize individual expression..

The breadth and depth of our visual arts program in high school allows students to develop technical proficiency with a distinct emphasis on the creative process and authenticity. For students in the IB Diploma Progamme, the IB Visual Arts program challenges students to push their creative boundaries and cultural expectations while also developing their analytical skills and technical proficiency. Students in the IB Visual Arts program will require students to explore and analyze artwork from differing cultural contexts, comparing works by developing connections through both form and meaning. In addition, students are expected to engage in and experiment with a with a variety of contemporary practices and mediums.
