What a weekend for the QLS Speech and Debate team! Quarry Lane's Lincoln Douglas team traveled to Dallas, Texas and competed at the Greenhill Fall Classic tournament at the varsity level. In a slightly different time zone, Quarry Lane rounded out the weekend with our Public Forum and Congress teams at the prestigious Yale Invitational in New Haven, Connecticut.
At the Greenhill Fall Classic, Sai Karavadi went 5-1 through preliminary rounds and received an award for being ranked the 8th best speaker out of 118 total students. They won bid round (double-octofinals), securing the first bid to the Tournament of Champions (TOC) for Quarry Lane this year and also advanced to quarter finals! For the first time in Quarry Lane's Lincoln Douglas program, we had two people in the elimination bracket with Zac Davis advancing to elimination rounds for the first time with an impressive 4-2 preliminary record. Additionally, Vineela Gogineni won two rounds in preliminaries with her affirmative cases.
Meanwhile, at the Yale Invitational, Anik Sen and Keya Vijapure's rounds resulted in an impressive 3-3 preliminary record in Varsity Public Forum, nearly winning their bubble round, competing out of 209 participants. Freshmen Arya Cyril and Eesha Cyril achieved a 3-3 record in Junior-Varsity Public Forum at their first travel tournament out of 69 total competitors from around the country. And Anoushka Prashanth, our Congress Captain, had the opportunity to act as Presiding Officer (PO) and ended 9th in her chamber in her first national tournament. Recent QLS alumnus and Speech and Debate veteran, Allen Abbott, also came out to support the team! Go Cougars!
