COVID-19 Illness Policies and Protocols

COVID-19 Illness Policies and Protocols Policies and procedures during the present pandemic are subject to change based on recommendations and guidance from Community Care Licensing, the Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) and other government and health agencies. In the absence of specific Quarry Lane School policies, employees, students, and their families are expected to comply with directives from the State of California, California Department of Public Health (CDPH), and the Alameda County Public Health Department established to control the spread of COVID-19.

Masks

Masks, particularly high-quality and well-fitting masks, remain highly effective, inexpensive, and dynamic tools to protect oneself and mitigate transmission of COVID-19 and other respiratory pathogens. Below are the mask requirements for the School.

  • Masks are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for students in Young Preschool (two-years-old) through Grader 12
  • Masks are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for ALL QLS staff members.
  • Masks are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for all adult visitors/parents, and children in grade 2 and above, while on campus (applies to all Quarry Lane campuses).

Vaccination

  • All eligible students aged 12 and up are required to be fully vaccinated* for COVID-19, unless exempt for medical or religious reasons.
  • We strongly encourage all eligible students (from 6 months to 11 years old) to receive the COVID-19 vaccine (Note: Currently, the CDC recommends the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 6 months and older.)
  • Additionally, in alignment with the CDC's and CPHD's recommendations, we strongly recommend students be up to date** on COVID-19 vaccines.

*A student is considered fully vaccinated after two weeks has passed since their second dose in a two-dose series, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after the single-dose J&J/Janssen vaccine.

**To be considered up to date, a student must have received all doses in the primary series and all boosters recommended, when eligible.

Vaccination Reporting:

To update your child's COVID-19 vaccination record, please submit a copy of your child's vaccine card by:

  • Preschool: Provide a copy of your child's vaccination card to your campus' office.

  • Middle and Upper School (Grades 6-12): Uploading a copy of the card the QLS Parent Portal: Click on the "Forms" tab ---> Select the "COVID Vaccination" form.

Testing and Illness/Symptom Policy

Weekly PCR testing is no longer required. If a child becomes ill during the day with any of the following symptoms: fever (100°F/37.8 or higher), cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea:

The student will be isolated in a separate room and supervised by a teacher or staff member.

The family will be notified and must be picked up right away, a home COVID test is recommended and if positive please follow the “When Can I Leave isolation” Alameda County guidelines.

Reminder: Keep your child home if they don't feel well and/or displays COVID-19 symptoms. Students who are home sick, but test negative for COVID-19, must also be fever-free for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and symptoms should be improving.

Notifying the School

To notify the school of a student’s COVID positive result please email:

Exposure

Students who are exposed to an individual with COVID-19 at school may remain in school unless they develop symptoms or test positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status. Being exposed to somebody with COVID-19 does not necessarily mean that your child will become infected. In fact, scientific research, and experience from around the country – including from California during this school year – demonstrate that schools remain among the safest places for children to be. We recommend students to take a COVID-19 test 3-5 days after exposure and continue to monitor for symptoms.

COVID Positive/Isolation Protocol

Students who test positive for COVID-19 must stay home from school and other settings, including all extra-curricular activities, for 5 days starting the day after either symptoms started or a first positive test result – whichever comes later. We encourage families to test as soon as possible if they suspect a student may have contracted COVID-19. Parents/guardians must notify the school ASAP if their child tests positive for COVID-19
