This program balances nurturing and caring with a young child’s growing need for both structure and independence. Teachers focus on weekly letters of the alphabet and monthly themes to guide children through exploration and discovery.

Young Preschool Program curriculum and developmental goals include:

• Social studies: all about me, the environment, seasons, transportation, health and safety, weather
• Emotional learning (Kimochis™): identifying, understanding and managing emotions in a fun, comfortable way to establish positive relationships and decision-making skills
• Social development: interacting with peers and adults, conflict resolution, express feelings
• Language and listening: language development, letter and sound recognition, phonics
• Pre-reading and Pre-writing: letters of the alphabet and phonics, name recognition
• Math: count orally, numbers, shapes, sorting, matching
• Large and fine motor skills: body awareness, coordination, spatial and directional awareness, music and movement
• STEM: problem-solving, hands-on discovery and provocation.
• Art: hands-on process-oriented art using paint, glue, scissors, tissue paper, recycled materials, etc. developing fine motor skills and creativity
• Music: a balance of music and movement, percussion instruments, sound and pattern reproduction, lessons are a minimum of one time per week
• Spanish immersion: vocabulary (numbers, colors and greetings), word and phrase recognition through videos, flash cards, objects and songs, lessons are a minimum of once per week
• Library Time: respond to storytelling, sequence events in the story, use of illustration in storytelling, create an original story, Kimochis (emotional learning) curriculum is also taught during library time

Using an accelerated grade level ahead curriculum, preschool students learn letter recognition, beginning stages of writing, pre­reading skills, concrete math skills, science, and language development which are key areas of focus in the preschool program.

Preschool Program curriculum and developmental goals include:

• Emotional learning (Kimochis™): identifying, understanding and managing emotions in a fun, comfortable way to establish positive relationships and decision-making skills
• The Language of Art: in-depth, hands-on exploration of ten core art media, lessons are a minimum of once per week
• Phonics: letter and sound recognition, phonemic awareness, and pre-reading skills
• Handwriting: letter and number formation, name writing, crayon/pencil grip, drawing, and coloring
• Math: match, sort, classify, number, ordinal numbers, shapes, and solids, compare sets, addition, and subtraction.
• STEM: problem-solving, hands-on discovery, and provocation
• Art: hands-on process-oriented art using paint, glue, scissors, tissue paper, pom poms, recycled materials, etc. developing fine motor skills and creativity
• Large and fine motor skills: body awareness, coordination, spatial and directional awareness

The Quarry Lane Pre-Kindergarten program is designed to prepare your child for an accelerated academic program. As the courses in the elementary program at Quarry Lane are advanced by a year or more, we want to expose your child to an accelerated curriculum in preparation for these elementary school years. This accelerated curriculum in pre-kindergarten is at a kindergarten level. We have carefully crafted a program that will balance your child’s experience which includes guidance in social awareness and understanding others.

Pre‑Kindergarten Program curriculum and developmental goals include:

• Monthly themes: all about me, the environment, seasons, transportation, health and safety, weather
• Emotional learning (Kimochis™): identifying, understanding and managing emotions in a fun, comfortable way to establish positive relationships and decision-making skills
• STEM: project-based learning with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math, lessons are a minimum of once per week
• The Language of Art: in-depth, hands-on exploration of ten core art media, lessons are a minimum of once per week
• Kindergarten level language arts: letter and sound recognition, phonics, high frequency words and word families
• Kindergarten level writing: letter and number formation, journal writing, writing words and phrases, sentence structure
• Kindergarten level math: sorting and classifying, patterns and movement, matching and counting, numbers, geometry and equal parts, money, measurement, time, exploring addition and subtraction
• Science: our environment, physical principles

The Quarry Lane Junior STEM Academy offers a full-day program for students bridging from preschool to Junior Kindergarten. The Junior STEM Academy offers a 1 to 10 ratio for a 7 hour day. Before and/or after-care options are available.
