Dear QLS Families,
Planning for the new school year amid the ongoing climate of uncertainty has required a complex, multilayered approach. Since the latter part of the last school year, our Development Committee—comprised of members from Quarry Lane faculty and administration—has continued to fine-tune every detail, as new information arises, while also reviewing important feedback we've received from parents, teachers, and students. Each step and decision made in our planning process has prioritized the health and safety of every member of our community. Throughout the year, we will need to remain nimble, creative, and collaborative, as new information and data guides our path forward.
On July 17th the State of California announced that all state schools—public and private—must open with distance learning if the county that the school resides in is being monitored for high levels of COVID-19. Please refer to our communication on July 17 here. At this time, Alameda County is still on the state's monitoring list, therefore our academic year will begin on August 24th with all students in grades one through twelve beginning with remote instruction. (*Important note: families with students in JK and KDG will open with the option for on-campus or distance learning at our Pleasanton East Campus.) This past Spring, our community expertly led the way in distance learning, giving us a distinct advantage to build upon the strengths of our successful experience as we open the new school year.
As always, we will continue to keep our families apprised of our plans to transition to our dual-teaching platform—including health and safety protocols and measures we have implemented—once permitted by the county to do so. At this time, students who selected onsite instruction will be allowed to return to campus. However, regardless of the learning platform chosen, we are committed to providing live/real-time/synchronous learning, five days a week, and delivering an educational experience that is dynamic, engaging, and maintains the standards of excellence that defines Quarry Lane.
Please join Quarry Lane School for our Parent Orientation meetings where we will outline our plans for the 2020-2021 school year. All meetings will be virtual; please check your e-mail for the Zoom meeting details. Parent Orientation Meeting Dates/Times:
Despite the unusual set of circumstances we face, we know how fortunate we are to be part of a community that has successfully overcome unprecedented challenges. We look forward to continuing this tradition as we welcome our families back for the 2020-2021 school year.
Thank you for your continued partnership!
Kindly, Shari Liebman, Jr. K-8 Director Eric Nguyen, High School Director
