It was another triumphant weekend for QLS speech and debate at the Barkley Forum Invitational and the GGSA's Congress/Public Forum debate tournament at San Marin High School.
Last weekend's tournament at Emory University was another success for the Cougars. The Barkley Forum Invitational, hosted by the Atlanta Urban Debate League, draws hundreds of competitors from across the country every year. Featuring both debate events, such as Public Forum and Congress, as well as various speech categories, the all-varsity competition offers bids for Tournament of Champions (TOC) to winning participants. In Lincoln Douglas, Sai Karavadi won four preliminary rounds and advanced to the WAU round. Meanwhile, Public Forum debaters Anik Sen and Keya Vijapure were equally successful during their preliminaries and emerged triumphant among all three judges in their TR tutorial round. Sophomores Tanvi Pendurthi and Aarushi Jain won two of their debates against primarily junior and senior competitors; close behind were freshmen Kushal Kodnad and Karan Saini, who won one. In Dramatic Interpretation, Prisha Bhadra advanced to quarterfinals with her speech, "Homecoming King," and was only a few final places away from breaking to semis. Suhani Narayan entertained judges thoroughly with her speech in Humorous Interpretation. Quarry Lane's victory does not end there, however. At the San Marin High School, GGSA hosted its third Congress/Public Forum debate tournament of the year. In Congressional debate, sophomore Michael Schoonover won fifth place in his chamber. Against seasoned participants from throughout the nation, the Quarry Lane debate team has earned both esteem and high praise. Congratulations to all the competitors!
