Quarry Lane junior Suhaani N. broke to the semifinal round in Senate Congress at The Barkley Forum Invitational, making the first Congress bid to the Tournament of Champions in Quarry Lane history.
Last weekend's tournament at Emory University was another success for the Cougars. The Barkley Forum Invitational, hosted by the Atlanta Urban Debate League, draws hundreds of competitors from across the country every year. Featuring debate events, such as Public Forum, LD, and Congress, as well as various speech categories, the all-varsity competition offers bids for Tournament of Champions (TOC) to winning participants. Junior Michael S. impressed his judges with his speech in Dramatic and Humorous Interpretation. Prisha B. and her partner Kunaal K. were equally successful in Duo, where they competed against some of the best teams in the country. Meanwhile, Public Forum debaters Anik S. and Aarushi J. won four of their preliminaries, thus breaking to their TR tutorial round. LD debaters Zac D. and Mackenzie D. both won in their preliminary rounds, while Meera S. advanced into the elimination rounds. In the best news of all, junior Suhaani N. broke to the semifinal round in Senate Congress, marking the first Congress bid to the Tournament of Champions in Quarry Lane history! With just one more bid, Suhaani can be the first Congress competitor from our school to actually attend the tournament in May. Against seasoned participants from throughout the nation, the Quarry Lane debate team has earned both esteem and high praise.
Back at home, our team has been equally successful at the third annual GGSA Debate tournament held at San Marin High School. Aarav W. and Amrit S. finished with a winning record in Public Forum, one of the most popular categories of the tournament. Congratulations to all the participants.
