The Quarry Lane Speech and Debate team closed one of the final tournaments of the year with a bang as they competed at The Santa Clara Invitational this past weekend.
3The Santa Clara Invitational, hosted by the SCU Philalethic Debate Society, drew hundreds of competitors from across the country. In novice Public Forum, freshmen Sahana N. and Esha C. won every single one of their six preliminary rounds and took first place among eighty other competitors. Close behind were Arya C. and Malavika R. who advanced to quarterfinals and placed eighth overall. Meanwhile, in novice Parliamentary, sophomores Kalyani V. and Olivia H. won three of their prelim debates and took second place against primarily junior and senior debaters. Suhani N. advocated for various political standpoints and was also ranked second in her chamber for Senate Congress. Quarry Lane's stunning achievements were not limited to debate events, however. In varsity Dramatic Interpretation, sophomore Amelia A. took third place, and Kanchan N. took seventh overall. Jamie W. and Malina G. entertained audiences with their performance in novice Duo Interp and were ranked first among thirty other participants. In novice Dramatic Interp, freshman Anjali K. advanced to semifinals, narrowly missing a break to the final round. From the seasoned high school competition to the immense variety of categories present, the Santa Clara Invitational is a reflection of our speech and debate team's consistent progress and skill over the year. Way to go, Cougars!
