The National Merit Scholarship Corporation awarded Quarry Lane senior, Rhea Mitr, with a National Merit Scholarship.
Rhea was chosen among a pool of 15,000 Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Each year, of the approximate 1.6 million entrants, 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores qualify for recognition in the program. Of those, approximately 34,000 students are then recognized as 'Commended' and the top 16,000 are recognized as 'Semifinalists'. The top 15,000 students become 'Finalists'. The pool of finalists are considered for National Merit Scholarship awards.
According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, "All winners of Merit Scholarship® awards (Merit Scholar® designees) are chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments."
Among Rhea's long list of notable accomplishments, recent ones include advancing as one of fifteen finalists in the global 2019 Breakthrough Junior Challenge to the Finalist Round. Rhea was also recognized by The City of Dublin as its 2018 Young Citizen of the Year. This fall, Rhea will head to her dream school, Stanford University. In addition to Stanford, Rhea was also recently accepted to a number of top universities, including Yale University.
