Students from Ms. Shin art classes visited an industrial arts school, The Crucible, in Oakland.
They got hands-on learning experiences through experimenting with different media and techniques. They observed a glassblowing class where the artist shared her skills and techniques, including gathering glass from the furnace, applying colors, and shaping and sculpting molten glass. Then explored metalsmithing, leatherworking, and Indigo dyeing classes and created their own projects, such as a key chain, bracelet, and tote bag. This trip allowed students to gain practical yet creative working knowledge of material processes.
