Class of 2019 Senior Spotlight

Each year, Quarry Lane features several stand-out seniors in the Spring/Summer edition of The SLATE. Meet this year's group of outstanding seniors and learn where they're headed this fall.

The following seniors were featured this year: Justina Lee, Tyler Lu, Lori Luo, Bhavesh Kalisetti, Keya Vijapure, and Faisal Hameed.

Justina, who is headed to Stanford University this fall, served as ASB Treasurer and Vice President for student council, and was a prominent member of the QLS varsity girls basketball team during her time at Quarry Lane. In addition, Justina was named one of the Class of 2019's co-salutatorians.

Tyler is off to Providence, Rhode Island, this fall as he begins his freshman journey at Brown University. A five-time Junior National qualifier in competitive swimming, Tyler will join the university's mid-distance swim team. Tyler represented Quarry Lane as a four-time CIF State Championship finalist. Having attended Quarry Lane School for 15 years, beginning in preschool, Tyler gave the welcome address at this year's commencement ceremony and received one of Quarry Lane's Lifelong Student Recognition medals.

Columbia University will welcome Quarry Lane's Class of 2019 valedictorian, Lori Luo, this fall. Lori was a member of the Quarry Lane FRC Robotics Team, as well as a member of the varsity girls basketball team. She also shared her passion for snakes with QLS biology instructor, Dr. Pale, on a snake breeding program.

A member of the varsity boys basketball team and Model UN, class of 2019 co-salutatorian, Bhavesh Kalisetti, will begin his freshman year at U.C. Berkley this fall in the highly selective Management, Entrepreneurship & Technology (M.E.T.) program. The MET program is known for offering dual Bachelor of Science degrees in a program that combines the top-ranked College of Engineering and Haas School of Business.

A prominent member of Quarry Lane's powerhouse Speech and Debate team, Keya Vijapure, will travel to Southern California this fall to attend U.C.L.A. Keya's outstanding speech and debate achievements have included qualifying and competing in the prestigious Tournament of Champions, and ranking as the #1 Public Forum debater in California and 12th in the nation this past year.

Joining Keya at U.C.L.A. this fall is fellow Cougar, Faisal Hameed. Faisal was a member of the QLS varsity basketball team, robotics team, and the California Scholarship Federation.
