QLS Counselor Receives University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award

Quarry Lane college counselor, Ms. Ashley McWilliams, recently received the 2021 Outstanding Educator Award from the University of Chicago.

Quarry Lane college counselor, Ms. Ashley McWilliams, recently received the 2021 Outstanding Educator Award from the University of Chicago—an award given to educators across the nation for educators that “go beyond everyday teaching and leave an impression that is carried over a lifetime”.

The distinguished award has existed for over 30 years. Newly admitted students to The University of Chicago are given the opportunity to recognize educators who have inspired, challenged, and made a difference in their lives.

Two QLS Class of 2021 graduates nominated Ms. McWilliams for the prestigious award.  As part of the nomination, students are asked to provide a short, written submission explaining how the teacher has helped them in their journey of intellectual growth. “It was such an incredible surprise to be nominated by two of my seniors from Class of 2021 for the University of Chicago award,” says Ms. McWilliams. “What I loved the most was getting to read their kind words that came with the award.  It is the best feeling to get to celebrate your students’ successes alongside them.”

“Ms. McWilliams is incredibly deserving of this honor,” says Dr. Sabri Arac, Head of School at Quarry Lane. “Her dedication to her students and passion for helping students realize their potential and fulfill their college dreams embodies our guiding philosophy— ‘I can make a difference.’”

Please join us in congratulating Ms. McWilliams on this well-deserved honor and recognition, as well as her exceptional dedication to making a difference in the lives of Quarry Lane students.
