The Quarry Lane Speech and Debate program took another step toward its ultimate goal of winning a national championship when sophomore Sai Karavadi became the first Cougar to advance to the title rounds of a national tournament by compiling a 5-2 overall record in Lincoln Douglas debate at the National Debate Coaches championships this past weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Quarry Lane Speech and Debate team demonstrated over the weekend why the future is brighter than ever for the program when 14 of the 18 awards earned by the Cougars at the prestigious Santa Clara University Spring Invitational tournament went to either 8th graders or freshmen.

Congratulations to Tara K. and Audrey M., who advanced through seven rounds over two days of Public Forum debate this past weekend at the San Francisco Bay District qualifying tournament to earn alternate spots at the National Speech and Debate Championships in June at Salt Lake City.

Congratulations to the QLS Chess Team for a fantastic performance at the California State Championship this past weekend. Four Cougars participated in the high school JV category, coming second overall in this prestigious tournament for schools from all over California.

The Quarry Lane Speech and Debate continues to make an impact on the national level - thanks in part to a sensational performance by its group of eighth grade speakers. The Cougars earned a total of 13 qualifying spots to the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National championships this past Saturday in a district event in Alameda.

The East Bay Times recently featured Dr. Jyothi Bathina's eighth and ninth grade students who recently completed an anthology of short stories, Privileged Not Perfect. The book will be published with an official book launch scheduled on March 31st, with the proceeds benefiting Literate Voices, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting youth literacy around the globe.

Congratulations to our 5th grade robotics team for their wonderful effort at the 4th Annual Sacred Heart VEX IQ Tournament this past weekend. Of our three teams, one made it through to the finals round, taking the 10th seed level out of a total of 59 teams.
